Abstract:

The current study investigates performance in two-stage production systems through the measurement of capacity utilization (CU). In short-run, the degree of capacity utilization depends on the ability of decision making units to utilize fixed production factors. To develop this indicator in two-stage production processes, a modified SBM network DEA model is proposed. A numerical example is also presented to point out the applicability and effectiveness of current model.

Capacity utilization in data envelopment analysis with integer data

In the process of production, some of the inputs are fixed and cannot easily be changed, such as work hours of workers and hours of administrative or work, these types of inputs are fixed and others are variables. In this paper, by considering some inputs or outputs which are limited, their amounts must be integrated; this concept for integer data is extended. We show the importance of subject ...

Measuring the Capacity Utilization of Public District Hospitals in Tunisia: Using Dual Data Envelopment Analysis Approach

Background Public district hospitals (PDHs) in Tunisia are not operating at full plant capacity and underutilize their operating budget.   Methods Individual PDHs capacity utilization (CU) is measured for 2000 and 2010 using dual data envelopment analysis (DEA) approach with shadow prices input and output restrictions. The CU is estimated for 101 of 105 PDH in 2000 and 94 of 105 PDH in 2010.   ...

Presenting a Hybrid Approach based on Two-stage Data Envelopment Analysis to Evaluating Organization Productivity

Measuring the performance of a production system has been an important task in management for purposes of control, planning, etc. Lord Kelvin said :“When you can measure what you are speaking about, and express it in numbers, you know something about it; but when you cannot measure it, when you cannot express it in numbers, your knowledge is of a meager and unsatisfactory kind.” Hence, manag...
